Perseverance is down

It was a nerve-wracking day, waiting to hear if Perseverance made it safely to the surface of Mars. That landing sequence is a long row of dominoes, all of which must fall precisely in order to carry that lander down. Controls engineers all over the planet were most impressed, I can assure you.

Now is a marvelous time to be alive if one is into things like space exploration and cosmology. LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) is giving us marvelous and baffling new results regularly by detecting gravitational waves resulting from merging black holes. About | LIGO Lab | Caltech With one observatory in Livingston Louisiana and one in Hanford Washington, the LIGO effort will soon be joined by Virgo, another gravitational interferometer in Italy.

May we enter an era of new scientific discovery and breakthrough.
